February 1 (Renewables Now) - US firm Eden Renewables announced on Monday it had started building 60 MW of pollinator-friendly solar farms in the state of New York.

The developer specialises in designing community solar farms to attract pollinators and is now building eight such plants in the towns of Claverack, Glen, Schaghticoke and Schodack.

Each solar farm will have around 7.5 MW of installed capacity and be capable of generating enough power to supply some 1,225 homes, Eden said. Under and around the panels, the company will sow native wildflowers, grasses and hedges to attract pollinators.

Construction works for each project are expected to take six months. Once in operation, the new community solar farms will allow local subscribers to save 10% on their annual electricity bill credits, Eden said.
